The Royal Commission welcomes the Government’s Inquiry approach

The Royal Commission has welcomed the Government’s approach outlining how it plans to respond to issues that emerge during the course of the Inquiry.

The Royal Commission will investigate the abuse and neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults who were in the care of State and faith-based institutions in New Zealand between 1950 and 1999.

The Government says it will take action in a transparent, coordinated and timely way, and indicated it will respond in real time to issues identified by the Commission during the course of its work.

As outlined in our Terms of Reference (s.38), the Royal Commission has the power to issue interim reports and recommendations at any time.

If urgent needs are identified, the Royal Commission will not hesitate to follow this approach.
